Consisting of the finest in back-strap loom weaving embodying iconic images from nature, the cosmos, architecture and art, the Candis E. Krummel Collection uses the finest in materials from ethically sourced merino wool, alpacas and linens to freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals. This art-to-wear is a true fusion of tradition with classic fashion.
Thriving on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala for over 30 years and enchanted by the Tzutujil Maya culture, Candis became immersed in back-strap loom weaving. More than ever she is impressed with the infinite design potential of this ancient loom, given to Maya women by the Goddess Ixchel.
Candis has used her design and community development expertise working with Maya women of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Utilizing ancestral skills and natural materials, they introduced finely-crafted accessories into high-end tourist markets.
Her recent projects with Taino ancestors in the Dominican Republic are dedicated to revitalizing the economy through sustainable tourism by encouraging the use of the art of their ancestors for inspiration to impart the unique experience with their people.
Candis' own logo reflects the exquisite Taíno designs found on ceramic seals, once used to decorate their bodies for ritual dances.
