UNFOLDING PROJECT: ACCORDION SILKS.
Each Accordion Bonbon is constructed of 100% silk dupioni, pieced to create colorful circular neck wraps, then pleated, bound, dyed, and finally the outer and inner edges are edge stitched, so the folds are crisp and permanent.
The Accordion Bonbon collapses like an accordion for easy packing and traveling (simply wrap in the original tissue and slip into suitcase or handbag.) Perfect your ensemble, transitioning from daytime activities to evening events, by unfolding and sculpting the accessory. Each time you sculpt it, the neck wrap will look new, fresh and original.
When I work with customers in my atelier I suggest they think of my accessories or garments as soft sculptures. There is no right or wrong way to wear the work - each item implores the wearer to experiment with pleating, constricting, releasing, twisting and folding. Structures you create by manipulating the Accordion Bonbon can be held in place by one or more of your treasured brooches (a pin carefully inserted will not hurt the fabric).
The expanded collection of UNFOLDING PROJECT: ACCORDION SILKS will be in the international shibori textile exhibition Shades of Memory at the Museum Sursilvan in Trun, Switzerland, July 28 - September 8, 2018.
