Rebecca Strabo

I explore landscapes through the use of light, shadow and pattern. I am drawn to the boundary between light and dark where colors emerge, and where land meets water and sky. My aim is to capture ephemeral moments when shadow and light are mysterious and dream-like. I try to represent landscape as both a specific place and a symbolic place. At the moment, I am working on a series of monotypes inspired by the Northwest. I take photographs and use them as a starting point. My prints have multiple layers of color, some as many as five or six. As my work progresses, it becomes more imaginative and subconscious.

Once a week, I make the journey on the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge to work with a community of other print artists, which helps keep me motivated and inspired. Often, I take photos on the ferry and get ideas for new work.
