Comments from the artist:

The paddled-square bottle is part of a family of similarly altered forms. I use an antique butter paddle to square a bottle, or sometimes to make a semi-oval form with two flat faces. The grooves in the wood of the butter paddle that kept it from sticking to butter also keep the paddle from sticking to damp clay. The clay and glaze combination of that bottle is something that I consistently use because I find its results compelling - from matte black, to smokey translucent, to metallic luster, and often with crystals.
