David Berger

Davidís background combines academic studies in philosophy and art at Yale. Davidís career in art has spanned art criticism as a reporter and art critic for the Seattle Times and as a contributing editor and columnist for the arts magazine Reflex; art curation at the Center for Contemporary Art in Seattle and Bellevue Art Museum; and lecturer and juror for SAAM, King County and the Washington State Arts Commission. He has been recognized for excellence in journalism (arts & criticism), has won awards for writing haiku, and this year published a book entitled Razor Clams: Buried Treasure of the Pacific Northwest.

Over the past decade, David has exhibited his own work in Sumi painting, winning a number of awards. Galleries in Seattle where he has shown include: KOBO, Asian Pacific Cultural Center, Kirsten Gallery, Columbia City Gallery, Gilmartin Gallery and Dahlia Gallery. In Tacoma, he has shown at the American Art Gallery, Handforth Gallery, and Tacoma Nature Center. David has designed cover art for books of poetry and fiction, including The Grand Piano Ridge, poems by Sibyl James in 2016, and All Fire, All Water, poems by Judith Roche in 2015. David has also exhibited sculpture at the Wells Fargo Bank in downtown Seattle and Port Angeles Fine Arts Center in Port Angeles. He participated in a show featuring work by artist-critics in New York City.
