Patricia Dalesandro

Patricia was born and raised in the city of Chicago near the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. She studied art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After art school, she embarked on a career in advertising as an Art Director, first in Chicago and now in Seattle. She still enjoys the world of advertising, but in the last couple of years sheís been diving back into painting with renewed vigor, so youíll often find her in her studio on evenings and weekends.

My current work is exploring emotion through the lens of nature. Nature can really capture all our moods: joy, anger, love and exuberance and serenity. Sometimes Iíll choose to tell the story in a more literal way, and other times in a more abstract way. Though watercolor is traditionally more translucent and perhaps more muted, Iíve chosen to focus more on the storytelling of each painting by using bold colors and transitions.

My subject matter uses nature as a jumping off point, but is not fully representational. I enjoy playing with movement, light and shadow and often view nature as a vehicle to express emotion. Though watercolors can be unforgiving, they also allow for spontaneity, vibrancy and immediacy. I occasionally add ink and charcoal for emphasis and to accentuate movement. I am fortunate to live on such a beautiful island, and draw a lot of inspiration from Bainbridge and the surrounding areas.
